A Last Best Voice Weekend at Twinhearts Ranch
On Saturday, February 28, Last Best Voice invites you to Twinhearts Ranch on the Powder River, south of Broadus, for an intimate winter gathering where music, land, food, and conversation come together in the spirit of Montana.
Headlining the evening is renowned Baroque violinist Carrie Krause, performing as part of Baroque Music Montana’s Gentle Plucks: Bach & Beyond concert series. Long before concert halls and ticketed elites, Baroque music was the music of the people—played in homes, villages, and community spaces. In that way, it shares a lineage with country music today: honest, expressive, and rooted in everyday life.
This ranch concert brings that tradition home, pairing world-class music with Montana hospitality and wide-open space.
The evening includes:
-
Baroque violin and harpsichord, featuring music by J.S. Bach and others
-
A special vocal performance by opera singer Anne Kania
-
Old-time cowboy storytelling and songs with Wally Cogndon
-
A pitch-in ranch supper featuring rattlesnake, calf nuts, and shared tables
The music is framed by late-afternoon conversations on regenerative agriculture and soil health, featuring farmers and ranchers who are keeping food systems local and profits at home.
The gathering continues Sunday morning with an informal roundtable discussion on energy and the future of the Powder River Basin, following recent developments around coal leasing and power generation. Coffee, conversation, and curiosity welcome.
This is more than a concert—it’s a community gathering, a winter retreat, and a celebration of Montana’s past, present, and future.
