Letter to the editor on Political Violence

Political violence is and has always been the way of the coward and the traitor. January 6th, the assassination of Minnesota state rep Melissa Hortman and her husband in June, and now the murder of Charlie Kirk: They are all betrayals of the first truth passed down to us by our faith and our forefathers–that all mankind is created equal, built in the image of the Creator and endowed with the right to both life and liberty.

The hidden hand of the assassin, the masked face of the thug, and the cruel whim of untouchable wealth all have the momentary power to deny those rights and that truth, but their power is built on the sand of a lie.

There is a sacred humanity in each of us. That lasting truth can be hard to find at times, but there is power and security in striving toward it, however imperfectly. We cannot turn away from it now.
