Yellowstone Forever? Climate Change and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem

Yellowstone is the landscape Montanans measure everything else against. Dr. Cathy Whitlock has spent decades studying how it has changed, reading lake sediments and pollen for a record going back thousands of years.

Whitlock co-authored the Greater Yellowstone Climate Assessment, the most detailed account available of what warming means for the region’s snowpack, streamflow, forests, and fire. She closes Billings Climate Week with what the science shows, in plain terms, and what it means for people living alongside the park.

Whitlock is Regents Professor Emerita of Earth Sciences at Montana State University Bozeman.
